

Meet Dr. James Choi
James Choi, MD, DMD, FACS is a dual degreed, board certified, fellowship trained Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon who specializes in Advanced Oral & Implant Surgery, Jaw & Chin Surgery, TMJ and Minimally Invasive Cosmetic Surgery. In the past 10 years in training and practice, he has devoted his time in honing ways to deliver care in minimally invasive ways for his patients. This includes care of the patient before, during and after surgery to lessen discomfort, minimize complications and speed recovery.

He has received numerous awards from eminent organizations - American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (AAOMS), Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation (OMSF), Oral Cancer Foundation (OCF), National Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) - and has published in many scientific journals regarding jaw surgery and facial reconstruction which were published in Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Craniomaxillofacial Trauma & Reconstruction. His most recent published research includes bone graft using stem cells in the oral & maxillofacial region, funded by Osteo Science Foundation.

Dr Choi completed his undergraduate as a McConnell Scholar at McGill University and holds Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) and Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) with honors at the University of Pennsylvania, an esteemed ivy league institution. Subsequently, he finished General Surgery Internship and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at Penn Medicine/Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, followed by Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery at the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial and Facial Plastic Surgery at the University of Munich, Germany.

Dr Choi maintains privileges at Lenox Hill Hospital (Northwell Health) and NYU Langone Hospital as Attending Surgeon, taking facial trauma call for the community and teaching next generation of oral & maxillofacial surgeons.

Community Service

Cleft & Craniofacial Jaw Surgery
As a Co-Director of the NYU Langone LI Cleft Team and Assistant Professor of Surgery at NYU Grossman LI School of Medicine, Dr Choi treats patients with cleft and craniofacial jaw deformities.

Oral Cancer Foundation
Dr Choi was given the Award for Excellence in Public Service from the Oral Cancer Foundation for promoting awareness and detection of oral cancer


Fellow, American College of Surgeons
Dr Choi is one of the few Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons in New York City and one of the youngest in his field to be inducted a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons - designation only given to surgeons with experience in complex cases who passes rigorous ethical and clinical standards and vetted by other surgeons to have led by example in their surgical field.
